WE INTERVIEWED SAMMI:

Why do you do what you do?

I do what I do because I love utilising both sides of my brain. I love the challenge of thinking logically and analytically through a scientific lens. But without creative thinking I struggle to find the meaning, purpose and passion. I love that architecture enables me to combine both art and science.

What message/intention do you want to leave in our world?

I am driven by a passion to design buildings that focus on sustainability without compromising on design. I believe that great architecture should inspire a consciousness and awareness of the natural beauty of our environment and should bring people together, to foster conversation and shared experiences.

What modalities do you express yourself with?

I love a more “old school” approach to design that involves experimentation and formulating ideas using the hand, but I also like to utilise graphic design to convey concepts and atmospheres created by my architecture.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I find inspiration from nature and our built world. I love to watch how people interact with spaces and their surroundings. I also find inspiration from visiting art galleries, travelling to new places, and learning about the various approaches to architecture from different cultures and periods in history.

What experience do you have with the arts? eg art classes, hobbies and interests?

As Tracey’s daughter I have grown up surrounded by creativity since I can remember! I was a student of Live Love Learn since it’s conception, and then began working here throughout high school. I studied visual arts for my HSC and received a band 6 for my major work, which explored the intersection between art and science. I have run my own art classes for teenagers from our home. As part of my university degree I am constantly building architectural models, and I love creating unique artworks out of them. I attend life-drawing classes and host clay nights at home with my friends.
